After reading Dear Juno, a story about a boy who writes to his grandmother in Korea, Mrs. Dupre’s class participated in a study of Asian culture. The study included researching different countries, learning about their languages, and creating art indicative of the culture. As a culminating activity, the class had a Korean Children’s Day. This is a holiday in Korea that honors and shows respect to all children. The children made origami, candy “sushi”, kites, and participated in other fun activities. A feast was also held in the students’ honor, where various Asian cuisine was served.
