Accelerated
Reader is a school wide program that all
teachers and students
will use. AR is a computer based program, which
allows students to read books from the
school library as well as the parish libraries.
AR quizzes
are available for thousands of books. Questions
are based on comprehension, or how well the student
understood and retained the information.
Within the first two weeks of the school year,
2nd & 3rd grade students will be given an assessment
test that is part of the Renaissance program.
This assessment will give teachers and students
a reliable result of their reading level and
ability. Based on the results of this assessment,
students will be given a reading level and a
point goal for each 9 weeks period. Students
should be at 50% of their goal by the interim
date of each 9 weeks. Students will not be allowed
to participate in the 9 weeks reward if they
have not met at least 50% of their goal by the
middle of the 9 weeks.
First grade will begin the AR program based on
their teacher's input. Most first graders will
begin the program by the second 9 weeks.
Kindergarten will begin the AR program by the
teacher reading the book aloud and taking tests
as a class. The teacher will read the test aloud
and encourage the class to participate.
Parents are encouraged to read with and to their
children on a daily basis!
You can also use the interactive AR site to check
if our school has the tests for books that you
may check out at the public libraries. |
